Trump Watch 20180716

Today's Episode:  Traitor, traitor, who is the traitor?

So, after Trump met with Putin privately, Trump left the meeting and declared that he believed Putin's denial of election meddling, rather than accept the reports of the American Intelligence agencies.  Apparently any reports that imply that his election may have less legitimacy is part of "deep state conspiracies," and American Intelligence agencies are less credible to Trump than Putin's claims.  After all, if Putin were lying about that sort of thing, Trump would be able to know based on his shrewd understanding of other people, and I guess that's also how he knows that there is a deep state conspiracy trying to undermine his presidency.

This leaves an interesting question for Americans, and possibly more importantly intelligence community operatives.  They have been told that the POTUS does not have confidence in their findings.  That POTUS takes the word of the leader of the foreign government that the say engaged in election disruption over theirs.  At this point, how can they keep their job?  Hasn't the POTUS essentially declared that they are at best incompetent, and at worst engaging in a conspiracy to undermine the POTUS, and improved relationships with an important foreign power?

There is a lot of damage being done here, one way or another, and maybe that's what is needed.  But if Trump, and the Republican Party do believe that there is this vast state conspiracy in play, they are should be getting rid of those involved in such a conspiracy.  If, on the other hand, they believe that Trump is trying to degrade American intelligence agencies, are they going to stand by and allow that to happen?  Or maybe they believe something less "active," but still deleterious to American interests, the question is just where is the line before they have to seriously look at impeachment proceedings?
