Trump Watch 20180703

Today's Episode - He saved us from WAR

I don't think this got much traction today, but Trump did tweet regarding how negotiations are going well with North Korea, and apparently if it weren't for him we would be at war with North Korea.  I'm not sure if he realizes we actually are at war with North Korea, no peace treaty was ever signed, and the current status is an armistice.  That is kind of sticklish, but this tweet is rather at odds with Trumps declaration to congress regarding the threat posed by North Korea at this time as well.

In other news, more reports regarding children detention and ICE strong arming separated parents to "authorize" the separation of families, or accept deportation with children immediately, apparently before getting an asylum hearing.  The document itself reads like a sort of Kafkaesque trial situation, you are given the choice of two unacceptable outcomes, and told to decide between them.  What I am curious about is what happens to a person that refuses to choose.  The article didn't address that though.  With the clock ticking though, it seems clear that the real policy is to try and expedite deportations without a judge in the loop, and/or extend family detentions in some sort of modified prison environment.  It's hard to tell how this will play out, but it's just one of the pieces in play.
